Platja de Surrac stretches along the Mediterranean coast of the Valencian Community, in eastern Spain, near the Valencian Community coastline characterized by its alternations of fine sandy beaches and small rocky coves. This stretch of coastline belongs to a fragmented coastal complex, where beaches follow each other at short distances, separated by low geological formations and areas of coastal vegetation typical of the region. The site is distinguished by its undeveloped character, offering a more authentic atmosphere than its immediate neighbors. Platja de la Mar Xica, 1.2 km away, and Platja d'Aiguadoliva, 1.4 km away, attract regular visitors, while Surrac maintains a certain discretion. The absence of supervision and standard tourist facilities gives the place a wilder dimension, where the visitor must adapt to natural conditions rather than the reverse. The beach receives moderate traffic, particularly during the peak summer season. No environmental quality label has been awarded to this area. Facilities such as parking, toilets, or showers are not documented on site. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not guaranteed. Like most beaches in this part of the Valencian coast, it remains a natural space where visitors must anticipate their needs for equipment and supplies.
The name 'Surrac' probably evokes a local geographical formation, although its exact etymology remains rooted in the little-documented Valencian toponymy of small coastal coves. This region of the Valencian Community experienced gradual transformation during the 20th century, moving from a coastal economy based on fishing and agriculture to growing seaside tourism, but unevenly distributed. Unlike the major tourist hubs nearby, Surrac escaped massive urbanization, retaining the fragmented and sparsely populated character of this Mediterranean coastline, where small beaches remain transition zones between agricultural areas and the sea.
