Marmara Ereğlisi Halk Plajı

Located on the coast of the Sea of Marmara in Turkey, in the Blacke region (Karabiga), this public beach stretches along the coastline of the Ereğlisi district, about 150 kilometers west of Istanbul. The Sea of Marmara, although less renowned than the Mediterranean or the Aegean Sea, offers temperate and relatively calm waters here, bordered by an Anatolian coast characterized by gentle hills and sparse Mediterranean vegetation. The shore, infrequently visited by international tourists, retains an authentically local character, far from the standardized resort complexes of the Aegean coast. The beach itself remains a modest and undeveloped space, reflecting its status as 'Halk Plajı' (people's beach)—a Turkish designation for public beaches accessible to the local population. Nearby, Dallas Beach is located 2.9 kilometers away and Sultanköy Beach at 5.2 kilometers, both sharing the same quiet and undeveloped character. The site offers an unpretentious swimming experience, where the absence of massive tourist infrastructure gives way to an atmosphere of ordinary relaxation, appreciated by the inhabitants of the surrounding coastal villages rather than passing visitors. This beach does not have Blue Flag certification and is not supervised by lifeguards. Access is not arranged for people with reduced mobility. No specific facilities (toilets, showers, parking, restaurants) are reported on site. It remains a no-frills seaside spot, intended for free swimming and coastal walks.

About this spot

The name 'Halk Plajı' literally means 'people's beach' in Turkish—a category of Turkish public beaches historically reserved for free and open access by residents, as opposed to private beaches or closed tourist complexes. Ereğlisi, a small port on the Sea of Marmara, has long thrived on fishing and coastal maritime trade. This beach embodies the Turkish tradition of preserving coastal areas accessible to the local community, a practice dating back to the 1960s-1970s when municipal authorities systematically designated public bathing areas along urban and suburban coasts. Today, it remains a discreet meeting place for families from surrounding villages, especially on summer weekends.
