La Palanca stretches along the coast of Valencia, Spain, about 40 kilometers south of the regional capital. This stretch of the Mediterranean coast is characterized by a succession of coves and small beaches backed by pine forests and agricultural land. The water, shallow near the shore, invites gradual and accessible swimming, while the coast itself remains largely free from the massive developments that mark other parts of the Valencian coastline. La Palanca stands out for its discreet character among the surrounding swimming spots. 8.9 kilometers to the north, El Galeró offers a similar but more frequented experience, while the Olles del Baubo, located 11.6 kilometers further south, offers a different configuration with more pronounced rocky formations. The site itself remains sparsely equipped and relatively untouched by the summer tourist influx, making it a choice for those seeking swimming without official supervision or developed leisure infrastructure. No comfort facilities are reported on site: no parking, no showers, no toilets, and no restaurants. The absence of the Blue Flag designation reflects the lack of swimming supervision. Access for people with reduced mobility is not provided. La Palanca thus remains a raw swimming spot, without tourist mediation, where the experience relies on the visitor's personal initiative.
The name 'Palanca' evokes in Spanish a lever or a support point—a possible reference to the local geological formations or the ancient port uses of this Mediterranean coast. This region of Valencia, long dominated by irrigated agriculture and coastal fishing, has preserved pockets of undeveloped coastline despite the tourist expansion of the 20th century. La Palanca belongs to these spaces where local inhabitants continue to swim far from seaside resorts, perpetuating a direct and unmediated relationship with the Mediterranean.
