Plage les Dunes stretches along the Algerian Mediterranean coast, at coordinates 36.78°N / 2.89°E, in the northern coastal region of the country. This stretch of shoreline is part of a series of beaches characterizing the Algiers coastline, dominated by limestone formations and pine forests descending to the sea. The area benefits from direct exposure to offshore swells, typical of this coast open to the central Mediterranean. The site occupies an intermediate position in a string of coastal beaches: Plage El Bahdja is located just 0.5 km away, while Plage Club des Pins extends 1.2 km. This density of swimming spots reflects the tourist appeal of the area, where beaches follow one another without major breaks in the landscape. The shore itself features characteristics of the Algiers coastline: a strip of sand and pebbles facing Mediterranean waters with changing hues depending on the season and time of day. No structured facilities (toilets, showers, parking) are reported on the site. The beach has no lifeguard supervision and has not obtained the Blue Flag status. Access for people with reduced mobility is not adapted. This lack of infrastructure reflects the natural and undeveloped character of the site compared to the coastal developments of major urban areas.
The dunes that give this beach its name are a characteristic geomorphological feature of the Algiers coastline, shaped by offshore winds and millennia of sedimentary accumulation. The coastal area between Algiers and its immediate surroundings has undergone progressive tourist development since the 1960s, with the appearance of hotels and beach clubs that have fragmented the natural coastline. Plage les Dunes nevertheless remains a relatively preserved section, frequented by local residents and visitors seeking direct access to the sea without going through the privatized hotel facilities that dominate nearby beaches like that of the Sheraton, 2.4 km away.
