Oued Saboun beach extends along the Algerian Mediterranean coast, in the Skikda region, about 7 kilometers east of the city center. This section of the North Algerian coast, characterized by a succession of coves and inlets, benefits from direct exposure to offshore winds and a gradual bathymetry. The shore, shaped by the alluvial deposits of the wadi that gives it its name, presents a typical morphology of Mediterranean river mouths, with a mix of sandy deposits and rock formations in the background. The site is distinguished by its less frequented character compared to its immediate neighbors. Plage Sophia, 2.2 kilometers to the west, attracts a denser clientele, while Plage de Guerbes, 3.9 kilometers to the east, offers a comparable alternative. The atmosphere remains that of an authentic Mediterranean coastal beach, where the sound of the waves mixes with the salty scents. The gentle slope of the seabed and the relative clarity of the waters make it a place of gradual access for swimming, far from the mass facilities that characterize some neighboring sections. No surveillance equipment is installed on site. Access is not adapted for people with reduced mobility. The beach lacks environmental certification and has no formal tourist facilities. Its status remains that of a natural beach, without major development interventions.
Oued Saboun, literally « soap river » in Arabic, gets its name from the alkaline properties of its waters, which were once used for washing fabrics and artisanal production. This river mouth has long marked a natural boundary between the fishing territories of Skikda and those of the surrounding coastal villages. During archaeological surveys in the 1970s, remains of Roman lime kilns were discovered nearby, testifying to intense economic activity during Late Antiquity. Local fishermen still maintain the tradition of going up the wadi at low tide to collect freshwater shrimp.
