Located on the Mediterranean coast of Algeria around 36.75°N and 3.18°E, this coastal area belongs to the northern Algerian coastal region, characterized by a succession of small sandy beaches bordering a relatively calm sea. The shoreline, moderately exposed to Mediterranean influences, is part of a fragmented set of coves and beach accesses that dot this portion of the Algerian coast. The beach consists of a band of fine sand, of moderate width, gradually extending into the sea. Nearby, Plage DZ is located 0.4 km and 0.6 km away, while شاطئ حورية البحر 1 stretches 0.7 km. This close configuration of several beach accesses gives the area a character of a densely developed coastal zone, where each beach retains its own identity. The site offers a direct swimming experience, with no major obstacles, allowing access to the sand from the land boundary. The beach benefits from active supervision, ensuring the presence of lifeguards during swimming periods. No Blue Flag certification is currently awarded. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not ensured at this site.
The name "شاطئ حورية البحر" literally means "Mermaid Beach" in Arabic, evoking Mediterranean mythology and marine legends that permeate the North African coasts. This designation, widely shared along the Algerian coastline, reflects the collective imagination of coastal populations, where marine creatures hold a central place in local folklore. The numbering "2" indicates the existence of a series of homonymous sites in the area, reflecting the administrative organization of public access to the sea in Algeria. This beach is part of the bathing dynamics of the Algerian coasts, where access to supervised swimming remains a structured public service.
