Köseağzı Plajı

Köseağzı Beach extends along the Black Sea coast in the Karadeniz region (TR-BLK), about 150 kilometers east of Ankara as the crow flies. This part of the northern Anatolian coastline is characterized by a sparsely urbanized shore, where sandy beaches alternate with wooded cliffs and small rocky promontories. The sea here has the typical grey-green hues of the Black Sea, with depth increasing rapidly beyond the swimming area. The beach itself offers a strip of fine sand, relatively wide at low tide, which contrasts with the narrower small coves in the immediate vicinity. 0.8 kilometers to the west is another coastal beach, while Çiğlik Beach, 4.8 kilometers to the east, marks a natural boundary of this sector. The atmosphere remains quiet and uncrowded, with direct exposure to northerly winds that can make swimming unpredictable depending on the season. The sand, generally well-maintained by natural coastal movements, hosts sparse vegetation in the backshore. No structured tourist facilities are reported on site. The beach is not Blue Flag certified and does not have official supervision. Access remains free and direct from coastal paths, although the lack of facilities for reduced mobility should be noted. Visitors must come equipped with their own gear, making it a destination primarily for independent travelers and locals familiar with the coast.

About this spot

The name Köseağzı literally means "mouth of the bald promontory" in Turkish, a geographical designation reflecting the local topography marked by bare rocky advances. This part of the Black Sea, although less famous than the seaside resorts of the Aegean coast, retains an authentic character little transformed by mass tourism. The region, historically a crossroads between central Anatolia and maritime trade routes, remains a territory where coastal life is organized around traditional fishing and local agriculture rather than structured tourism.
