Located on the south shore of Lake Geneva, about 15 kilometers east of Lausanne, Plage de l'Ancien Stand occupies a discreet segment of the Vaudois coast characterized by gentle, gradual shores. The lake, the largest body of water in Western Europe, offers a peaceful perspective on the Alps from French-speaking Switzerland. The surrounding coastline consists of alternating beaches and sparsely populated natural areas, typical of this less touristy portion of Lake Geneva than the areas of Montreux or Vevey. L'Ancien Stand is distinguished by its quiet character, far from the bustle of developed beaches. 7.4 kilometers to the west is Plage des Pierrettes, while the more developed Plage de Ripaille extends 11.6 kilometers away. This intermediate position gives the site an atmosphere of relative seclusion, conducive to stress-free swimming. Access to the lake is via a gradual beach profile, ideal for gradual entry into the water. The site remains unsupervised and lacks Blue Flag status. No major infrastructure (parking, toilets, showers, dining) is documented on site. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not provided. Visitors should plan for self-sufficiency and bring essential items.
The name "Ancien Stand" likely refers to an old shooting or military training range, a common historical reference in Vaudois villages. Lake Geneva, formed by Quaternary glaciers, has shaped the landscapes of this south shore for millennia. This beach embodies the ordinary Lake Geneva of French-speaking Swiss: neither a seaside resort nor an exceptional site, but rather a place where local residents come for discreet swims on summer evenings, far from the classic tourist circuit of the Montreux shores.
