Located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, in immediate proximity to Lake Bourget, Plage des Meuniers is part of the alpine landscape of northern Savoie. The lake, the largest natural lake in France, unfolds its cold, clear waters at the foot of the mountain ranges that frame the valley. The shore, at this point, follows the contours of small coves alternating with more open areas, characteristic of the Savoyard lake shores. Plage des Meuniers occupies a discreet position among the swimming access points in the area. Only 2 kilometers from Plage de la Pointe de l'Ardre and 1.9 kilometers from a developed swimming area, it is distinguished by its less formalized character. The shore invites direct access to the lake waters, without imposing infrastructure. The atmosphere remains that of a local stopover rather than a structured seaside destination, where contact with the lake environment takes precedence over tourist facilities. No swimming supervision is provided in this area. Access does not offer facilities for people with reduced mobility. Visitors must come equipped with their own resources, far from the standardized infrastructure of the more frequented beaches of Lake Bourget.
The name 'Meuniers' refers to the local industrial history: water mills once harnessed the streams flowing into Lake Bourget, transforming hydraulic energy into motive power for milling and textiles. The region, historically prosperous thanks to these activities, has retained traces of this pre-industrial economy in its toponymy. Today, the beach remains an anchor point for the inhabitants of the Chambéry basin seeking simple immersion in the alpine waters, far from the hustle and bustle of the lake's seaside resorts.
