Spiaggia della Forcatella

La Spiaggia della Forcatella extends along the Adriatic coast of Puglia, in Southern Italy, in the province of Brindisi. Located about 2.8 km southwest of Spiaggia Torre Canne and 3.2 km northeast of La Sirenetta, this beach is part of a fragmented coastline characterized by coves alternating with rocky areas. The shore, dominated by low cliffs and limestone formations typical of the region, gradually slopes into the clear waters of the southern Adriatic, offering a gradual transition between land and sea. The beach is distinguished by its wild and undeveloped character compared to its immediate neighbors. Unlike Torre Canne, which benefits from greater summer attendance, and La Sirenetta, which is more developed for tourism, Forcatella retains a more secluded atmosphere. The coastline, composed of a combination of sand and fine pebbles, is part of a preserved coastal landscape where Mediterranean vegetation descends to the water's edge. Direct access from the coastal road remains simple, although the absence of large-scale infrastructure preserves the intimacy of the place. No supervision services are provided on this beach, and accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not guaranteed. Visitors must plan for complete self-sufficiency: no sanitary facilities, dining options, or structured parking are documented. This configuration makes it a deliberate choice for those seeking a coastal experience without standardized tourist amenities.

About this spot

The name "Forcatella" derives from the archaic Italian term "forcata," evoking a fork or bifurcation in the terrain. This nomenclature reflects the local geography: the beach is part of a series of small coastal enclaves where the coastline frequently changes direction. Historically, this region of Puglia experienced intense coastal watch activity from the 16th to the 18th century, with the construction of watchtowers against Barbary raids—the proximity of Torre Canne, one of these fortifications, bears witness to this. Forcatella, although lacking a major defensive tower, is part of this strategic context of a coast long contested between Mediterranean powers.
