Playa Los Llanillos

Playa Los Llanillos extends along the northeast coast of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, a few kilometers southeast of the capital Santa Cruz. This stretch of the Atlantic coast is characterized by a succession of coves and small beaches nestled between volcanic rock formations, typical of this northern region of the archipelago. The coastal relief alternates between low cliffs and pocket beaches, creating a fragmented landscape where each beach has its own geographical character. Los Llanillos' shore consists of pebbles and gravel, giving the beach a distinct texture compared to its immediate neighbors. Just 200 meters to the south is another small beach, while 2.2 kilometers to the east opens up a new cove. This configuration of a string of small, fragmented bathing areas reflects the local volcanic geology. The site offers a tranquil atmosphere, far from the bustle of the large tourist beaches, with generally calm waters due to partial exposure to the prevailing Atlantic winds. The beach remains undeveloped and retains a natural appearance marked by the gray hue of the volcanic pebbles. The site has no official supervision or Blue Flag status. Access remains basic, with no particular facilities documented for people with reduced mobility. This beach is for visitors seeking discreet swimming, without the standardized amenities of Tenerife's main seaside resorts, making it a refuge for those who prioritize coastal authenticity over conventional tourist facilities.

About this spot

The name 'Los Llanillos' evokes the small coastal plains characteristic of this area of northern Tenerife. The region, historically less developed than the south of the island, has retained a strong local identity linked to fishing and agriculture. The volcanic geological formations that structure this coast date back to eruptions in the Pliocene and Quaternary, creating the fragmented landscape observed today. Unlike the southern beaches transformed into tourist complexes since the 1970s, this northern sector has escaped mass development, allowing small coastal communities to maintain their traditional relationship with the sea.
