Le Pop Plage is located on the shores of Lake Annecy, in Haute-Savoie, very close to Annecy. Situated in the northern part of the lake, this Alpine body of water offers cold, crystal-clear waters framed by the mountainous massifs characteristic of the region. The surrounding shore alternates between developed beaches and wooded areas, typical of the Savoyard coast where urbanization is limited and natural spaces predominate. This fine sandy beach benefits from a southwest exposure, making it a popular spot on sunny days. Only 400 meters from CH Beach and 500 meters from Albigny Beach, Le Pop Plage stands out for its less institutional character than its immediate neighbors, offering a more relaxed atmosphere. The well-maintained sand slopes gradually towards the lake, allowing for easy access to fresh water. The general ambiance remains calm and family-friendly, far from large-scale facilities. Access to the site is subject to a fee (€15 per day). No swimming supervision is provided on site. The lack of specific facilities for people with reduced mobility limits accessibility. The non-Blue Flag status reflects the absence of environmental certifications or standardized services, typical of small Alpine beaches managed locally.
Le Pop Plage gets its name from the French slang 'pop' (popular), reflecting its historical status as a swimming spot accessible to the inhabitants of Annecy without any ostentatious tourist pretensions. Lake Annecy, formed by glacial erosion about 18,000 years ago, remains one of the purest lakes in France, a quality that local bathers jealously protect. In the 1980s, this beach gradually became a summer meeting point for young people from Annecy, retaining this community identity to this day, distinct from the large tourist beaches in the area.
