The beaches of Premià de Mar form a long ribbon of urban sand in the heart of the Maresme comarca, along the Catalan Mediterranean coast roughly 20 kilometers northeast of Barcelona. The local shoreline stretches continuously between Vilassar de Mar to the east and El Masnou to the west with no significant breaks—ideal for those who enjoy barefoot walks along the water's edge. The R1 Rodalies railway line (Barcelona–Mataró–Maçanet) runs directly alongside the sand: a defining feature of this stretch of the Maresme, somewhat like the Cannes promenade but in railway form. The area remains essentially urban, frequented by Premià residents and day-trippers from Barcelona. About 1.5 km toward Vilassar, the Illa Fantasía water park serves as a landmark for families in summer. Further east, several additional beach sections (Beach ES-E at 2.6 km, 3.5 km, 4.3 km, 5.7 km) extend the shoreline toward Cabrera de Mar and Vilassar. Worth checking on site: no official facilities (restrooms, showers, dedicated parking, beachfront restaurant) are listed in our open data for this specific location. No Blue Flag designation noted, no documented summer lifeguard service. Access is primarily via the pedestrian passage connecting the railway station to the sand.
The Maresme takes its name from the Catalan word "maresme," which historically referred to the marshy lands along the coast, drained over centuries to make way for viticulture and later dense coastal development. Premià de Mar developed as a beach town at the turn of the 20th century, coinciding with the opening of the railway line that still hugs the shoreline today.
