Isla Cool Douce occupies a strategic position in the Gorges of Ardèche, in Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The site is nestled in the heart of a spectacular limestone landscape, where the river winds between ochre and gray cliffs that overlook the valley. This section of the river is distinguished by its clear waters and banks shaped by centuries of erosion, offering a striking contrast with the medieval villages perched on the surrounding heights. Just a few hundred meters away are Beach Vallon-Pont-d'Arc 4 and the Labebourne swimming area, while Beach Vallon-Pont-d'Arc 6 extends 2.7 kilometers downstream. Isla Cool Douce functions as a developed water park, part of the destination's recreational and family offerings. Unlike the adjacent natural beaches, the site offers a structured experience, with facilities designed for water leisure activities. The atmosphere remains that of the Ardèche gorges: cool, clear waters, intense summer ambiance during the summer, variable visitor numbers depending on the periods. Visitors particularly appreciate the immediate proximity to the famous Pont d'Arc, an emblematic geological monument that overlooks the surroundings. The site does not have the Blue Flag label. No official supervision is provided, and access is not adapted for people with reduced mobility. Visitors must assess their swimming abilities based on the conditions of the Ardèche River, whose flow and temperature vary significantly depending on the seasons. Swimming here remains an activity to be practiced with discernment, especially during flood periods.
Vallon-Pont-d'Arc owes its geographical prestige to the Pont d'Arc, a natural arch 54 meters wide formed by river erosion approximately 100,000 years ago. The site has long served as a strategic crossing point between the Vivarais plateaus and the Mediterranean plains. Isla Cool Douce is part of the progressive modernization of local tourist services, responding to the growing summer demand from families exploring the gorges. The region, famous for its Paleolithic painted caves, attracts visitors from all over the world, gradually transforming Vallon-Pont-d'Arc into a hub for active tourism and natural heritage.
