Kharouba Beach extends along the Algerian Mediterranean coast, in the wilaya of Tipasa, about 70 km west of Algiers. This portion of the Algerian north coast is characterized by a succession of small beaches and coves, framed by limestone rock formations typical of the region. The Mediterranean here has a blue-green hue, particularly clear in summer, with a shore shaped by coastal currents and the alternation of tides. The site is distinguished by its modest seaside resort character, less densely frequented than its immediate neighbors. Plage Larhat, located 600 meters away, attracts more visitors on summer weekends, while Plage Zahra.y, 1 kilometer away, offers a similar but slightly more developed atmosphere. Plage Ma3youche, 1.1 kilometers away, completes this set of small shores where fine sand alternates with pebble areas depending on the sector. The atmosphere remains that of an authentic Algerian coastal beach, without infrastructural overload, where local bathers and families make up the vast majority of visitors. No major infrastructure is documented on the site: no lifeguard station, no accessible access for people with reduced mobility, no Blue Flag status. Access remains free and natural, a common characteristic of most beaches on this coast. Visitors must prepare for complete self-sufficiency, with no basic services on site.
The name Kharouba likely refers to a local plant or a Berber geographical formation, although the exact toponymy is poorly documented in academic sources. This region of Tipasa, a former Roman port and Phoenician trading center, retains traces of millennia of Mediterranean navigation in its coastal landscape. The beaches in this sector long served as natural anchorages before the modern era; today, they embody the Algerian coastline as it persists outside major tourist centers, where swimming remains a social practice rooted in the daily lives of coastal populations rather than an organized industry.
