Spiaggia Libera extends along the Adriatic coast of Rimini, in Emilia-Romagna, a short distance from the seaside resort center of the city. This portion of the northern Italian coastline borders a shallow and calm sea, characteristic of the northern Adriatic, where sandy bottoms descend gradually. The shore, shaped by centuries of alluvial deposits, offers a continuity of developed and free beaches stretching for several kilometers. Fine, golden sand makes up this entire free beach, not concessioned to private bathing establishments. Unlike Cocobeach 106/b, located just 100 meters away, or Bagno 122 Paradise at 500 meters, which offer commercial services and structured bathing infrastructure, this beach retains direct and free access. The atmosphere remains that of an established seaside resort, with regular attendance and a typical family-friendly ambiance of the Romagna coast. The sand extends widely at low tide, offering generous space to visitors. The beach benefits from active supervision during the summer season, ensuring swimming safety. Access remains free, with no entrance fee. No accessibility facilities for people with reduced mobility are reported on site.
The name "Spiaggia Libera"—literally "free beach"—designates portions of the Adriatic coastline not concessioned to private operators, a distinction dating back to Italian coastal regulations of the 20th century. Rimini, an ancient Roman colony (Ariminum), transformed from the 1950s onwards into the European capital of mass seaside tourism. This free beach embodies the democratization of access to the sea: while the *bagni* (bathing establishments) multiplied, citizens claimed the right to free swimming areas. Even today, these free beaches serve as a counterpoint to highly commercialized areas, attracting local residents and travelers seeking a less formalized experience.
