Spiaggia di Velluto

Located on the Adriatic coast of the Marche region, about 15 km south of Ancona, Spiaggia di Velluto is part of the characteristic coastline of this central Italian region: a succession of fine sandy beaches alternating with family-run beach establishments. The shore, oriented north-south, benefits from direct exposure to sea winds that moderate summer temperatures. The area behind the beach consists of small residential buildings and a few local shops, typical of an Adriatic seaside resort. This beach is part of a very dense continuity of bathing areas: just 100 meters away are Bagni Gisella e Ivano 111, and 200 meters away is Chiarandrea 117, two traditional beach establishments that mark the compartmentalized nature of this sector. Unlike the wilder beaches of the southern Marche, the coastline here presents itself as a succession of small private or semi-public domains, each with its own facilities. The fine, golden sand gradually extends towards a generally calm sea in summer, with sandy bottoms that facilitate access to the water. Access to the beach presents no particular barriers, although no specific facilities for people with reduced mobility are reported. The beach does not benefit from the Blue Flag label and has no official supervision. Bathers particularly appreciate this section for its quiet character and its proximity to immediate coastal services, without the crowds of more touristy areas.

About this spot

The name 'Velluto'—velvet in Italian—evokes the soft texture of the fine sand that characterizes this section of the Adriatic coast of the Marche. This region, historically important for maritime trade and fishing, has progressively developed its seaside economy starting in the 1950s. The beach establishments bordering this 'spiaggia' bear witness to this transformation: family-run structures, often managed for several generations, embodying the Italian model of local seaside holidays. Unlike overcrowded Mediterranean destinations, these Adriatic beaches retain the atmosphere of a regional resort, where residents of the Marche and neighboring Umbria come for their summers.
