Playa Nombre de Jesús stretches along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, in the Guanacaste region, near the Santa Elena Peninsula. This stretch of coastline is part of a string of beaches that characterize the Gulf of Papagayo, where the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean meet rocky formations and sandy coves. The coast here remains relatively preserved, far from major tourist centers, with a hinterland dominated by the dry tropical vegetation typical of this northern region of the country. The beach is distinguished by its tranquil character within a succession of coastal coves. Playa Real, only 500 meters away, offers an immediate contrast due to its higher visitor numbers, while Playa Bahía de los Piratas, 900 meters away, retains a more isolated atmosphere. Access remains rudimentary, without formal amenities, making it a place where visitors encounter the coast in its natural state. Visitors discover a strip of fine sand bordered by low rock formations and small promontories that create natural pools at low tide. No structured facilities are located here: no developed parking, no public toilets, and no showers. The beach is not supervised and has no access for people with reduced mobility. This lack of infrastructure reflects its status as a rural beach, mainly accessible to motorists with precise local maps or directions. The proximity of Playa Pedregosa (1.9 km) and Playa Honda (1.6 km) offers alternatives a few minutes' drive away.
The name "Nombre de Jesús"—literally "Name of Jesus"—is part of the tradition of religious nomenclature on the Costa Rican coasts, a legacy of Spanish colonization. The beaches in this Guanacaste region often bear names evocative of saints or biblical figures, testifying to missionary expeditions in the 16th century. Geologically, this north Pacific coast results from ancient volcanic activity, with basaltic rocks emerging between sandy accumulations creating coastal micro-ecosystems. Little documented touristically, Playa Nombre de Jesús remains frequented mainly by local residents and coastal fishermen who know the tide passages and seasons of oceanic calm.
