Karaöz Beach extends along the Turkish Mediterranean coast, in the Lycia region, about 6.4 km from Adrasan and 2.1 km from Pirate Bay. This part of the Anatolian coastline, characterized by limestone cliffs plunging into crystal-clear waters, is part of a coastal landscape where isolated coves alternate with more open beaches. The eastern Mediterranean displays its deep blue hues here, particularly intense in summer, while the mountainous hinterland of the Taurus Mountains creates a striking contrast with the sea. The beach itself retains a largely undeveloped character, contrasting sharply with the more developed facilities of its immediate neighbors. Nearby, Pirate Bay (2.1 km) offers a more touristy experience, while Adrasan (6.4 km) remains a small traditional coastal village. Karaöz Beach attracts those seeking swimming without heavy infrastructure, where the shore directly meets coastal pine forests and the atmosphere remains that of a preserved Mediterranean cove. The site has neither supervision nor Blue Flag. Access remains rudimentary, without facilities for reduced mobility. Visitors must bring their own equipment and supplies, making it a popular spot for independent travelers and lovers of sparsely populated coastlines.
Karaöz literally means "black rock" in Turkish, a likely reference to the volcanic and metamorphic geological formations characterizing this part of the Lycian coast. This region, the cradle of ancient civilizations like Lycia, retains traces of millions of years of Mediterranean tectonics in its landscapes. The cliffs framing the beach bear witness to the intense geomorphological activity of the area, where marine erosion continually shapes the coastal profile. Although little documented touristically, Karaöz Beach represents one of the many coastal refuges that travelers discover while exploring the coastal routes between Adrasan and Demre, far from the marked trails.
