Магарешкия плаж (Magareshkiya beach) extends along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, in the southeastern region of the country, near Nesebar and its famous ancient ruins. Located about 0.6 km north of South beach (Nestinarka) and 1.6 km south of Централен плаж (Central Beach), this beach is part of a string of small coves that characterize the coastline of this area. The coast here presents varied terrain, alternating between sandy stretches and rock formations that plunge directly into the temperate waters of the Black Sea. This stretch of coastline retains a less developed character than its immediate neighbors, offering a quieter atmosphere than the Central Beach, while remaining accessible from the surrounding tourist infrastructure. The coastal landscape remains largely natural, with sparse Mediterranean vegetation descending to the shoreline. The waters generally show good clarity, particularly in late summer, and exposure to prevailing northeasterly winds moderates swimming conditions depending on the period. No official supervision is provided on this beach, and no specific facilities (showers, toilets, parking) are documented. Access remains free and direct from the coastal paths connecting the various coves in the region. Visitors should anticipate the absence of basic amenities and come equipped with personal gear.
The name "Магарешкия" (Magareshkiya) refers to the local history of the Nesebar peninsula, whose toponym derives from the ancient Greek Mesembria. This coastal region, occupied since antiquity by Greek and later Roman colonies, retains traces of these historical layers in its place names. The beach itself is part of an area where traditional fishing activities have long coexisted with modern seaside tourism. Local fishermen continue to use the nearby small coves as mooring points, recalling that these beaches remain spaces for daily life as well as leisure.
