Tremouilles Beach stretches along Lake Serre-Ponçon in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, just outside Prunières. Created by a dam built in 1961, this reservoir lake covers more than 34 square kilometers, with calm waters framed by wooded slopes and limestone cliffs. The Tremouilles area, situated roughly 0.6 kilometers from Beach Prunières 3 and 0.6 kilometers from Beach Prunières 12, benefits from a southwest-facing exposure that makes it an ideal spot for summer swimming. The beach is composed of pebbles and gravel, typical of Lake Serre-Ponçon's shoreline. The waterfront features a gentle slope that allows for gradual entry into the water. Unlike the busier neighboring Prunières beaches during peak season, this stretch maintains a more understated character with minimal development. The lake's clear, cold waters—fed by Alpine sources—invite swimming from June through September. Behind the beach, Mediterranean and sub-Alpine vegetation creates a transitional landscape between mountain and lake. Access is free, and the beach provides facilities for people with reduced mobility. No lifeguard service is available on-site. Infrastructure remains minimal, as is typical for lake beaches in rural areas. The nearby Aquaparc, located 1.8 kilometers away, offers families an alternative for additional water activities.
Lake Serre-Ponçon, created in 1961 by its namesake dam, transformed an agricultural valley into a regional tourist destination. The name "Tremouilles" derives from an old Provençal family that owned land in the area before the valley was flooded. This beach embodies the transformation of the Alpine landscape: where livestock once grazed, the lake's waters now provide a retreat for residents of the Hautes-Alpes and neighboring departments. The site remains relatively unknown to international tourists, frequented mainly by local visitors who value its tranquility and freedom from summer overcrowding.
