Located on Algeria's Mediterranean coast roughly 30 kilometers east of Algiers, this beach forms part of Boumerdas's shoreline, a coastal region defined by the interplay of rocky coves and open beaches. The shore belongs to the western Mediterranean, known for its generally calm summer waters and gradually sloping seabed. Behind the beach, typical Mediterranean vegetation dominates the landscape, particularly fig trees whose presence inspired the site's name. This beach distinguishes itself through its immediate proximity to Plage Sghirat, just 200 meters away, and Plage Le figuier 2, one kilometer to the east. Unlike its busier neighbors, this stretch maintains a less developed character, offering a more secluded swimming experience. Access is direct from the coastal road, and the site remains minimally equipped with permanent facilities, preserving its natural appeal. No official lifeguard service operates on this section. The absence of Blue Flag certification reflects the lack of standardized tourist infrastructure. Visitors should expect limited fixed amenities and plan accordingly. The beach remains accessible to vehicles, allowing informal parking along the shoreline.
The fig tree, an emblematic plant of the Maghreb since antiquity, has lent its name to several beaches in the Boumerdas region. This hardy shrub thrives on the limestone and rocky soils of Algeria's coastline, its roots penetrating deep into coastal crevices. Historically, the Boumerdas coast served as an anchorage point for Phoenician navigators and Ottoman merchants before becoming a seaside destination for Algeria's middle class during the twentieth century. The beaches of this sector, fragmented and named through numerical designation or botanical reference, reflect this history of gradual visitor traffic and uneven development along Algeria's Mediterranean shore.
