Yörükali Beach stretches along the coast of the Sea of Marmara, in the Eastern Marmara region of Turkey, about 80 kilometers east of Istanbul. This portion of the coastline is characterized by a succession of small bays and semi-urban beaches, where the shores alternate between fine sand and rocky areas depending on the location. The shore here benefits from a southwest exposure, making it a preferred reception point for seasonal winds from the strait. The site operates as a paid beach, which distinguishes its character from the free-access beaches dotting the area. Aya Nikola Halk Beach, just 1.1 kilometers away, offers a free and more informal alternative, while Ada Beach Club, located 2.4 kilometers away, represents another beach club option in the same area. The general atmosphere remains that of a semi-developed coast, where tourist facilities coexist with still undeveloped areas. The shore caters to local and regional clientele rather than mass international tourism. Access to the site requires an entrance fee. No swimming supervision is provided on site, and accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not guaranteed. Visitors should anticipate their needs for equipment and services, as the site does not have the standardized facilities of large seaside resorts. The beach does not have Blue Flag certification.
Yörükali, whose Turkish name literally means 'nomad's beach,' reflects the pastoral history of this Marmara region where nomadic populations long coexisted with coastal settlements. The Marmara itself, an inland basin connecting the Mediterranean to the Black Sea via the straits, has shaped local economy and culture for millennia. Today, this coastline caters to regional clientele seeking an escape from the crowded streets of Istanbul, rather than conventional tourist routes. The paid beaches in this area have proliferated since the 1990s, gradually transforming formerly wild stretches into semi-organized leisure destinations.
