Platja de Santa Llúcia

Platja de Santa Llúcia extends along the east coast of Spain, in the Valencian Community, immediately adjacent to the coastal town of Cullera. Located about 40 kilometers south of Valencia, it borders the Mediterranean in an area where the coastline alternates between small rocky coves and pebble beaches. The shore, characterized by a gentle slope, is part of a typical Mediterranean landscape, with pine forests descending to the sea and limestone formations in the background. The beach consists entirely of pebbles, giving it a distinct character compared to its immediate neighbors. Cala del Moro, only 100 meters away, has a similar but more compact configuration, while Cala Puerto Azul, 200 meters away, offers more natural shelters. Upon arrival, visitors discover a narrow coastal strip, bordered by Mediterranean vegetation, where the sound of waves on the pebbles creates a characteristic ambiance. The water, generally clear, reveals the stony bottom typical of this rocky coast. Access is via coastal paths connecting the various calas in the area. No major tourist facilities equip the site: no parking, no toilets, no showers. Devoid of swimming supervision and Blue Flag status, this beach retains a pronounced natural character. The absence of amenities makes it a place appreciated by visitors seeking tranquility, although swimming remains everyone's sole responsibility.

About this spot

Platja de Santa Llúcia derives its name from the chapel of Saint Lucia, built in the 13th century on the heights overlooking this stretch of the Valencian coast. The region, long exposed to Barbary raids, has retained traces of this turbulent history in its toponymy and architecture. The pebbles that make up this beach come from the erosion of the surrounding limestone formations, a continuous geological process that imperceptibly reshapes the coastline. According to local residents, it is precisely this stony composition that has preserved the cove from the tourist overcrowding affecting other parts of the Valencian coast, allowing Santa Llúcia to retain its authentic Mediterranean atmosphere.
