Oued El Ghenem stretches along the northwestern Algerian coastline, in the Mascara region, close to the Mediterranean coast. Located about 2.6 km east of Ain Romaine Beach and 3.7 km west of Chetabi Beach, this beach is part of a string of small sandy shores that characterize this segment of the coastline. The surrounding coast alternates between stretches of fine sand and low rocky formations, typical of the Mediterranean fringes of the Maghreb. The shore is entirely sandy, providing a gradual approach to the water. Unlike the busier Ain Romaine Beach, which has basic facilities, Oued El Ghenem retains a more pristine and less structured character. The direct exposure to winds and swells from the open sea gives this area a constant coastal dynamic, with modest dune formations and a relatively narrow beach at high tide. The landscape is marked by the absence of visible infrastructure from the shore, enhancing the impression of a sparsely urbanized space. The beach has no swimming supervision or lifeguard service. No specific facilities (toilets, showers, parking) are reported. It does not hold the Blue Flag designation. Access is not adapted for people with reduced mobility. Swimming conditions depend entirely on natural tidal and weather cycles, without organized human intervention.
The name "Oued El Ghenem" evokes the seasonal river that flows nearby, a fundamental term in North African geography. This coastal region of northwestern Algeria, historically a crossroads of Mediterranean trade routes, maintains an economy largely focused on artisanal fishing and local agriculture. The beaches in this area, not heavily integrated into major tourist circuits, remain passageways for fishermen and residents of nearby coastal villages, far from the standardized beach developments of eastern Algeria.
