Plage Gazagnaire

Plage Gazagnaire extends eastward from the Boulevard de la Croisette in Cannes, nestled between the grand hotel district and Pointe Croisette, which closes off the bay. The beach is entirely sandy—fine imported sand, meticulously maintained like most of Cannes' waterfront—with a full southern exposure overlooking the Lérins Islands (Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat), which appear as silhouettes on the horizon. Width varies seasonally and with annual sand replenishment, typically ranging from 20 to 35 metres. The beach has a gentle slope, with the seabed dropping off quickly after a few metres. This is one of Cannes' **public beaches**, distinguishing it from the numerous private concessions that dominate much of the Croisette. To the west, at 1.2 km away, begins the string of iconic hotel beaches (Plage du Martinez, Plage de la Croisette, and others), while the larger, more family-oriented Plage de la Bocca lies 6 km further west. Heading east, Plage Gallice in Antibes-Juan-les-Pins is 6.7 km away. Facilities and lifeguard services vary with the bathing season (typically June to September): a first-aid station, public showers, and sun lounger rentals on certain sections. For current information, contact Cannes town hall or check signage on site. While this specific stretch does not hold an individual Blue Flag designation, water quality across the bay is regularly monitored.

About this spot

The beach is named after Eugène Gazagnaire, mayor of Cannes from 1929 to 1935, who championed the development of the waterfront and the extension of public promenade eastward toward Pointe Croisette. At that time, the Croisette was almost entirely lined with private estates and grand hotels; the public beaches created under his administration represented a deliberate effort to restore public access to the sea for Cannois residents, who had been largely shut out from the shoreline by hotels and private concessions. Today it remains a go-to destination for those seeking Cannes sand without paying for a lounger.
