Plage du VD8

Located on the northern shore of Lake Geneva, in French-speaking Switzerland, Plage du VD8 is part of the lakeside area extending between Lausanne and Evian. The shore here adopts the typical character of Lake Geneva beaches: a narrow sandy strip bordered by the Alps in the background, with cold, crystalline waters reflecting the snow-capped peaks depending on the season. The lake, although inland, offers an authentic coastal dynamic, marked by seasonal variations and currents that continuously shape the shoreline. The beach itself consists of fine, regular sand, characteristic of lake deposit areas. Backed by Plage CH (100 meters away) and in immediate proximity to Baignade CH (also 100 meters away), it is distinguished by its direct access and less formalized atmosphere than some neighboring facilities located 400 to 600 meters away. Exposure to the elements remains moderate, protected by the geography of the Lake Geneva basin. Upon arrival, visitors discover an easily accessible sandy strip, suitable for summer swimming and relaxation activities, with a gentle slope facilitating entry into the water. Access to the site is free and guaranteed. Dogs are tolerated outside the summer period (October 16 to March 14), making it a popular spot for owners in the low season. No reception facilities (toilets, showers, parking) are documented on site, and the beach is not supervised. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not provided. The beach does not have the Blue Flag label.

About this spot

The designation "VD8" refers to the canton of Vaud (VD) and an administrative classification of lakeside bathing sites. Although lacking a prominent historical name, this beach is part of the bathing heritage of Lake Geneva, which since the 19th century has attracted travelers and spa-goers seeking the invigorating virtues of Alpine waters. The region has experienced measured tourist development, preserving direct and informal access points like this one, contrasting with the more structured facilities of neighboring resorts. Each summer, local families and swimmers find a forgotten simplicity here, far from the seaside complexes, thus perpetuating a practice of lake use that dates back to the beginnings of Swiss resort tourism.
