Isla Virginia

Isla Virginia 2 is part of the coastal archipelago in Quezon Province, in the Calabarzon Region, approximately 200 kilometers northeast of Manila. The coastline in this area, exposed to the Philippine Sea, is characterized by a succession of small beaches and rocky coves bordered by dense tropical vegetation. The region, dominated by the rugged terrain of the Sierra Madre, offers a landscape where the jungle descends to the water, creating a wild atmosphere tempered by the growing tourist activity of Baler, a nearby coastal town known for surfing. Immediately adjacent to the Pedervera Resort (100 meters away), Isla Virginia 2 functions as a beach extension of a hotel infrastructure. The beach stands out from its immediate neighbors—Hiraya Baler Beachfront Cabanas at 600 meters and Amihan Aplaya Baler at 1.2 kilometers—due to its complete integration into a resort complex. Access to swimming is via the resort's facilities, giving the site a semi-private character. The shore, lined with coconut trees and modest tourist amenities, offers a relatively sheltered bay, typical of the eastern coast of Luzon. The site does not have Blue Flag certification. No official supervision is provided; the safety of swimmers depends on the protocols of the resort to which the beach is attached. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not guaranteed. Any visit requires prior coordination with the Pedervera Resort, the de facto owner of the beach area.

About this spot

Baler, whose name derives from the Tagalog word "balir" (river), emerged in the 20th century as a resort center and, since the 1980s, as the Philippine capital of surfing. Isla Virginia 2 represents one of the many small islands and coves that dot this coast battered by the Pacific trade winds. The local geology, shaped by Quaternary orogeny, has created a fragmented coastline where small resorts have gradually established themselves, transforming areas once accessible only by boat into organized coastal destinations. The tourism development in this area accelerated after the construction of coastal roads connecting Baler to Manila, attracting surfers and travelers seeking an alternative to the overcrowded beaches of Boracay.
