Armutlu Dereağzı Plajı

Armutlu Dereağzı Plajı extends along the coast of the Sea of Marmara, in the Yalova region of western Turkey. Located about 100 kilometers east of Istanbul, this beach borders a coastal area characterized by coves alternating with rocky formations, typical of the southern Marmara shore. The shore, composed of fine sand, offers a marked contrast with neighboring beaches: 0.6 kilometers to the east is 366 Beach Cafe, while Çakıl Beach Cafe, more frequented and equipped, lies 0.8 kilometers towards the center of Yalova. The beach itself has a gentle profile, with gradual access to shallow water in the first few meters. Unlike the more urbanized areas of the Yalova coast, this sector retains a quiet atmosphere, without massive infrastructure. The fine, slightly grayish-beige sand extends for about a hundred meters before giving way to coastal rocks. The clear waters allow good visibility down to a few meters deep, revealing a sandy bottom dotted with small stones. No lifeguard services are provided on the beach. Access is not arranged for people with reduced mobility. In the immediate vicinity, the 366 Beach Cafe offers food and drinks, while sanitary facilities and parking remain limited on the site itself. The beach does not fly the Blue Flag.

About this spot

Armutlu, whose name literally means "rich in pear trees" in Turkish, is a small agricultural town in the Yalova peninsula, famous for its orchards and thermal springs. The Dereağzı stream ("stream mouth"), which gives its name to this beach, has shaped a small sandy delta over the centuries where fresh water mixes with the Marmara. During the 1960s and 1970s, this area was a discreet resort for Istanbul families seeking to escape the summer heat; local fishermen came to check their nets before the gradual urbanization of the Yalova coast. Today, it remains a refuge for swimmers wishing to get away from the region's overcrowded beaches.
