Located on the Algerian Mediterranean coast, at approximately 36°58'N and 7°13'E, Plage Kef Fatima is part of the northeastern Algerian coastline, a region characterized by limestone cliffs plunging into a deep blue sea. The area, sparsely urbanized, offers a succession of small coves and pebble beaches, with the mountainous hinterland of the Bibans range visible on the horizon. This stretch of Mediterranean coast remains largely preserved from massive tourist developments, retaining a wild and sparsely frequented character. The site is distinguished by its relative isolation compared to nearby beaches: Plage de Oued Lekbir (4 km) and Plage de Guerbes 3 (4.4 km) are the closest alternative access points. Upon arrival, visitors discover a coast exposed to the elements, where the rocky shore alternates with narrow sandy stretches. The absence of tourist structures reinforces the impression of authenticity, while the clear waters allow observation of the rocky seabed. The atmosphere remains that of a local bathing spot, mainly frequented by residents of the surrounding villages. No notable infrastructure is documented: no developed parking, no public toilets, no lifeguard supervision. Access remains free and without charge, but the lack of facilities implies an independent visit. The site does not fly the Blue Flag label. The beach is suitable for experienced swimmers aware of Mediterranean coastal conditions and the risks inherent in an unsupervised area.
Kef Fatima, whose name evokes both a local geological formation ("kef" means rock in Tamazight) and a revered female figure in Maghrebi tradition, embodies the beaches of the Algerian coast that have remained on the fringes of mass tourism. This region, historically a crossroads between Numidian kingdoms and the Roman Empire, then between Ottoman and colonial powers, retains traces of these historical strata in its coastal villages. Local fishermen continue to use these waters as their ancestors did, perpetuating an ancestral maritime economy that tourism has not yet transformed.
