Zona de Baño "Las Escanales"

The "Las Escanales" bathing area extends along the Mediterranean coast of southeastern Spain, in the region of Murcia, immediately adjacent to the coastal town. Located approximately 1.9 km from the neighboring "Plage ES-S" and 16.9 km from Poza Del Gorgotón, this stretch of shore benefits from the characteristic exposure of the Costa Cálida, where turquoise waters contrast with the ochre rock formations that punctuate the coastline. The coastal relief, marked by limestone escarpments and small coves, gives this area a typical morphology of the Murcian Mediterranean bays, less spectacular than the northern cliffs but with a certain geographical intimacy. The site derives its name from the local geological formations—"escanales" referring to the small channels and ravines carved by erosion in the coastal rocks. Access is from the paths that run along the coast, offering a bathing experience without formal infrastructure. The character of this area remains that of a little-developed stretch of coast, contrasting with the more equipped beaches in the sector, where the proximity to rock formations invites exploration of the adjacent small coves. No structured facilities are reported on site. Bathing takes place without official supervision, and the location does not have the Blue Flag certification. Access remains free, although lacking the standard amenities of developed beach areas. This lack of development makes it a space reserved for visitors seeking a less formalized coastal experience.

About this spot

The name "Las Escanales" directly evokes the local geology: these small canyons and gullies carved by water and wind in the coastal limestone, characteristic of the Murcian Mediterranean geomorphology. This region, historically dominated by agriculture and artisanal fishing, has preserved stretches of coastline little transformed by mass tourism. The rock formations that structure this area bear witness to the tectonic and climatic evolution of the Mediterranean Basin, while the small adjacent coves have long served as natural anchorages for local fishing boats.
