FKK Porat stretches along the Croatian Dalmatian coast, in the immediate vicinity of Portorož and the coastal towns of the southern Gulf of Trieste. Located at coordinates 45.125°N / 14.4878°E, the site borders the northern Adriatic, where the characteristic rocky and limestone coast of this region gradually gives way to more sheltered coves. The surrounding coastal landscape blends low cliffs, Mediterranean pine forests, and small promontories typical of the Croatian Riviera, with generally crystal-clear waters and a seabed favorable to swimmers. This naturist beach remains discreet compared to its immediate neighbors: Plage HR, located just 1 km away, attracts a more conventional clientele, while Draga, 2.8 km away, offers a similar but more frequented character. The absence of official supervision and standardized facilities gives the site an atmosphere of authenticity, far from mass facilities. The shore likely combines pebbles and rocky areas, typical of this sector of the North Adriatic, offering direct swimming from the rocks or from fine pebble beaches. Exposure to the northeast wind (bora) remains moderate due to the protection offered by the surrounding land. No formal tourist infrastructure is documented on the site: no toilets, parking, showers, or restaurants. Access remains free and natural, without facilities for people with reduced mobility. Swimming is done without official supervision, and the naturist beach status implies specific and respectful adherence to local customs. This configuration makes it a place of relaxation for visitors seeking privacy and an unadorned beach experience.
The name 'FKK Porat' directly refers to the German initials Freikörperkultur (free body culture), designating naturist areas established in Central and Mediterranean Europe since the 1970s. Croatia, a former Yugoslav region, inherited a well-established naturist tradition during the communist era, where these beaches represented spaces of bodily freedom and collective relaxation. The Gulf of Trieste and its adjacent coasts concentrate several of these historical sites, witnesses to a rooted social practice. Porat, a Slavic term meaning a small port or cove, highlights the local geography: this sector of the Dalmatian coast, with its numerous small natural shelters, was naturally suited for the establishment of such community spaces. Today, FKK Porat retains this discreet and respectful vocation, frequented by a loyal clientele, mainly regional and Central European.
