The world's beaches, mapped: BeachFinder data

There is no official global registry of beaches. BeachFinder builds its swimming-place coverage from open mapping sources and enriches it with photos, conditions and accessibility data. The public product figure below applies app-level geographic deduplication; the country chart is a separate snapshot of source records tagged as beaches before that fuzzy deduplication. Journalists are welcome to cite the figures with the scope stated here.

  • The 184,900 headline is a unique swimming-place coverage figure, not a raw row count. It combines beaches, lakes, swimming areas and bathing places after app-level geographic deduplication.
